昨晚再度出海捕飛魚，偶爾飄雨的夜晚沒有滿天星斗。
但是海星星(註1)再度給我驚喜。
我們一度因沒燈而在黑暗中拉網，這時附著在魚網上的海星星便在黑暗中閃耀，
收網時，像是從海裡拉出一條銀河，內心感動。
當飛魚衝網時，我們除了可以聽到海面上飛魚拍打出水花的聲音外，
手摸著網繩也能感覺到網子的抖動，當地人說就像打手槍一樣，
親自體會後，的確是頗維妙維肖的一個形容。
返回港口時已經快半夜兩點，獲得五百多尾還算不錯的成績，
分成四份後，也不刮魚鱗了(註2)，大家帶著疲憊的身軀回家。
帶著魚腥味回到宿舍，滿身飛魚卵清洗不掉，
抓飛魚真的很累。
前幾天聽人說：這邊以後魚會越來越多喔，因為年輕人都在家裡上網，不下海捕魚了。
註1：海裡的藻類，被翻動時會發出綠色螢光。
註2：蘭嶼人通常會先在港口刮魚鱗，再將刮好魚鱗的飛魚帶回家處理。
Last night we sailed out for fishing; the
drizzling sky was not filled with stars, but the sea stars (note 1) surprised
me again as it always does.
We once pulled the net without light, and
we could see the glow of the sea stars stuck on the net in the darkness. When
we were drawing up the net, it was like drawing up a galaxy from the sea. It
touches me greatly.
When the flying fish was speeding toward
the net, in addition to the sound of water splashing, we could feel the
trembling of the net through our hands. According to the locals, it is just
like wanking. After their description and my personal experience, it is a
pretty good depiction.
It was almost two o’clock in the mid night
when we returned. We had about 500 fish, which is a good harvest, for four of
us to share. We didn’t scale off the fish (note 2); instead, we dragged our
exhausted body home. We came back to the dorm with the fishy smell; the roe of
flying fish was really hard to be cleaned up. It is really tiresome to catch
flying fish.
The other day, I heard someone said, there
will be more and more fish here, because the youngers would rather stay home
surfing on the net than cast the real net in the sea.
Note 1: the sea alga would glow in green
when it is stirred.
Note 2: the locals would scale off the fish
at the harbor before taking the fish home.
